burgertime (hk edition)

I know its been a bit of a food blog lately, but, I’m fat, and enjoy food. Also if you keep up with my personal art, you’d notice it revolves around hamburgers and pizza a lot.

The last time I was in Hong Kong, Bobby, Pat and I, in a state of total confusion/exhaustion/deliciousness, ended up at a tiny burger spot that took us forever to walk to. It was great, and they had poutine. In a haze of the itis/jetlag, it never came up again.

Until today.

I spent about 3 hours trying to figure out what this place was, and where it was. Bobby recalled it as “near some popular stairs. the crew woke up and went out on a mission.

Well, there were a lot of stairs. but it was worth it. for this little door here.

Everyone got their orders and chowed down.

I went with the guitar shop special, poutine, and a coke. Amazing.

You need to come here if you swing by Hong Kong.

..and on a side note, Hong Kong is a pretty fucking confusing place.

Get it together, man.

before the flight

I leave for Hong Kong tomorrow with the rest of The Hundreds design team, and instead of joining the festivities at the RSWD 5 year anniversary party, I’m doing some packing, catching up on some work and generally trying to relax a bit before a loooong flight. I have a bit of thing for having either a burger or mexican before going to Asia, so this time we went to guisados in Boyle Heights.

Picked up some cochinita pibil tacos and a “Armando Palmero” (jamaica drink + ague de limon). Ducky went with the horchata that totally tasted like cinnamon toast crunch (aka delicious).

Hit the spot perfectly before heading to the land of clay pot rice, bok choy, and supposed “meat” in hot pots.

Dank je wel.

The Hundreds recently collaborated with dutch weirdos Fresh Cotton for their 10 year anniversary.
If you check street wear blogs, you probably saw it, if not,.. they look like this….

Its a great looking shoe, but the concept behind it is what really did it for me.
The shoe is packaged with a typical classic dutch bandana, called a boeren zakdoek (farmers handkerchief), which is usually tied around the neck, and has been seen tons with a little yellow clog keeping the knot tight in front.

I’m a huge fan of stuff deep in tradition/history, and love digging for facts, so I was super excited to design this.
They printed great and look amazing in the box with the shoes.

Its a bit hard to se some of the detail in the photos…

..but I can assure you, there are tons.
The file eventually was the biggest pain just from all the vector points.

It’s always a great feeling to see something go from fact digging, to a tangible object, especially when it reaches out of your immediate community. Fresh Cotton recently had their 10 year anniversary party and debuted the shoe collab, was cool to see people randomly wearing something I geeked out on for a week.

ok, back to work I go.

photos from Fresh Cotton, random google image search, and B&S Photography. more photos from the Fresh Cotton party here.

food + friends + prep + yeah.

Sunday Fundays!

Crystal, Jose, and Hendrix came by to cook up a storm and work on some art.

Crystal and Ducky whipped up some amazing home made fried chicken…

..and corn cookies from Momofukus recipe, which not only were awesome as ice cream sandwiches…

but also as ham and cheese melts!

All the while, jose and I put some finishing touches on art we will be displaying March 23rd in DTLA.
Heres a little sneak peek of the Suedehead/Benjie “TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES” show (if you’re into that sort of thing…)

fernando-mania

Fernando is the friendly neighborhood “homelees” (according to him, “homelees” will make it easier to search on the google and the yahoo than “homeless”, its also protection if “motherfuckers try to stereotype”) who is starting up sites, apparently.

He then let me know about him getting a photo with Kim Kardashian, then showed evidence of writing a random Facebook url on a piece of cardboard. He was also very excited about touching her “tail”.

Ladies: he’s also single. If you need a hook-up, let me know.
